Welcome!
I’m Joy LaPrade, and I’m glad you decided to drop in for a moment. Since you’re here, you might share some of my passions: the Bible, the church, and women’s roles in both.
Or maybe you’re asking some of the same questions? About things like: spiritual abuse, teaching on gender roles, ecclesiology and church history, the influence of American consumer culture on church life, etc.
And perhaps you share a story like mine: one of betrayal and abandonment by the people who represented Jesus to you. A story that left you wandering in the wilderness, lonely and searching for answers.
However you arrived, I’m grateful you’re here.
“Remembering Her” is named in honor of Mary of Bethany, whose story has captivated me for years.
Mary’s story points towards a model of worship based on gifts. A church characterized by abundance and not scarcity; generosity and love rather than power and control.
Remembering and reflecting on Mary’s story can help us think about questions of ministry and church structure today. I want to consider these issues while also sharing parts of my own story. I hope what I write here can help to “re-member” the parts of Christ’s bride that have been fractured and broken; that aren’t caring for or building up each other.
